To densify its high-speed telecom network, the Republic of Benin received a concessional loan of 265 million RMB yuan (40.2 million USD) from China.

In 2018, the first phase of the telecommunications and ICT infrastructure development project enabled Benin to deploy 2,000 km of optical fiber. The country is preparing for the second phase to further extend digital dividends to its entire population. The financial agreement was signed on Tuesday, September 14, by the Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Aurélien Agbénonci and the Chinese Ambassador to Benin, Jingtao Peng. The densification of the broadband network financed by China is part of the second phase of the telecommunications and ICT infrastructure development project (PDI2T) initiated in 2016 and led by the Agency for Digital Development (ADN) .
