Vietnam is the second largest coffee exporter in the world. Thus, the confinement and health restrictions in the country, linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, could result in high coffee bean prices next year.

The consequences of confinement and health restrictions for exports can be dramatic. This is why a note issued by the firm Fitch Solutions indicates that the price of coffee could well remain very high next year. The implementation of measures to stop the progression of the epidemic on the territory is not without effect on trade, which slows down sharply: coffee exports suffer. And this, while demand, particularly in Europe and the United States, is increasing. Therefore, prices move. Between July and August, coffee exports from Vietnam fell by 8.7%, according to customs data relayed by the American chain. This represents about 111,697 tons of grain, while in January and August these exports reached more than 1.1 million tons. If this remains lower by more than 6% compared to last year, the turnover linked to these coffee exports increased by 2%, to reach two billion dollars, according to Reuters data relayed by CNBC. These elements reflect a constant demand for coffee, even if exports are weakening and production is no longer keeping pace.
