Mali's rather fragile economic health may not improve. For the second consecutive year, the country will experience a significant deficit in its national budget, which amounts to more than 600 billion of our francs.

In addition to a catastrophic agricultural season in places, the signals are red in several economic sectors in Mali. The war deprived the country of tax revenue from several regions, notably the regions of Ségou, Koulikoro, Sikasso and Mopti. The northern regions of the country, namely Timbuktu, Gao, Kidal and Ménaka have long been under the control of these Islamists who deprive the State of taxes. The 2022 finance bill that the CNT has adopted, the first part of which is devoted to the general conditions of budgetary and financial balance, is not reassuring. Budget revenue forecasts for the 2022 financial year amount to 2,130.721 billion CFA francs, while budget expenditure forecasts amount to 2,748.285 billion CFA francs. The 2022 Budget presents an overall deficit of 617.564 billion FCFA, against 652.927 billion FCFA in 2021. The members of the National Transitional Council adopted this first part of the Finance Law presented by the Minister of Economy and Finance this Thursday November 25, 2021 by 101 votes for, zero votes against and zero abstentions, after several hours of debate.
