Between March 2021 and March 2022, the outstanding credit of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) increased by 51.2%. This financing granted to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is part of the Scheme to Promote the Financing of SMEs in Umoa.

According to data announced by Ahmadou Al Amine Lo, National Director of the Central Bank of West African States (Bceao) for Senegal, 567 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have benefited from financing under the scheme, with a global outstanding credit of 402 billion CFA francs against 265.9 billion CFA francs in March 2021. He was speaking on the occasion of the launch of the "Access" project and the "SME Financing Academy". According to him, the "Academy" and the "Access" project will contribute to raising the outstanding credit in favor of SMEs, which "still remains modest in the credit portfolio of the banking and financial system, compared to other developing countries".
