The price of wheat is propelled to a record high after the Indian export embargo. The ton of wheat soared nearly 6% to 439.25 euros in session after India's decision to ban exports.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, global wheat production is expected to decline for the first time in four years. Already severely disrupted since the start of the war in Ukraine, wheat supply could become even more problematic. On Monday, in Chicago, the bushel of grain (about 25 kg) jumped 6% to $11.70. The increase was so strong that the daily variation limit was affected from the first exchanges and that they had to be suspended for a few minutes. On the Paris futures market, the ton of soft wheat rose up to 5.11% in the morning to reach 439.25 euros, an all-time high in the session.
Corcorn is up 34% year-to-date, soybeans are up 25%. As for palm oil, which is widely consumed in Asia and Africa, it increased by 22% to nearly $1,500 per tonne. Food prices continue to gain momentum.
