According to official data released yesterday Wednesday by the National Statistics Agency, the inflationary increase in Ghana reached 29.8% in June.

New record. Inflation reached 29.8% in June. Rising more than those of domestic products for the third consecutive month, fuel and bread, the prices of imported products pushed prices up in June according to the statistics agency. Transportation recorded the strongest price growth, with 41.6%, as diesel experienced year-on-year inflation of 99.7% and gasoline increased by 69.4%. Housing, on the other hand, increased by 38.4 per cent and food supplies reached 30.7 per cent. For its part, the government would seek to obtain an IMF economic support package to avoid a “total crisis.” Note that this is the second time since January 2004 inflation has reached this level.
