After two coup d'État, and under sanctions imposed by West African states, Mali was left with unpaid debts. Last Friday, the government announced that it had “paid all outstanding debts” on this debt.

From January to July 2022 that these sanctions lasted, the West African country was unable to “pay its debt service”, this is what the Ministry of Economy informs and Finance in a press release. Thus, after the lifting of sanctions by the Community of West African States (ECOWAS), according to this press release, the State “took all the necessary steps to settle the unpaid deadlines”. According to the details of the said press release, the Ministry cites “an external debt of approximately 85.1 billion CFA” and market debt issued by syndication (through an operation set up with several financial actors) for an amount of 66 billion FCFA”.

In addition, on August 9, a bond issue was organized which “made it possible to settle the outstanding balance of the outstanding market debt issued by auction, i.e. 215 billions of FCFA”.
