Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina was re-elected for a second five-year term as President of the African Development Bank Group on Thursday, August 27, 2020, by the Bank's Board of Governors, following its two-day virtual Annual Meetings.

"The result of the election allowed him to obtain 100% of the votes of all regional and non-regional members of the Bank. As the newly re-elected President, Dr. Adesina, Nigeria's former Minister of Agriculture, will begin his new term on 1 September 2020," announced the Chair of the Bank's Board of Governors, Niale Kaba.
Niale Kaba, ivorian Minister of Planning and Development, said he was "delighted that the Board of Governors has re-elected Mr. Adesina for a second term as President of the Bank Group. As shareholders, we strongly support the Bank and will provide Mr. Adesina with all necessary support to pursue and implement his compelling vision for the Bank over the next five years."
Mr. Adesina's first term focused on the Bank Group's bold new agenda, which is based on five development priorities known as the "High 5": lighting up and powering Africa; feeding Africa; industrialize Africa; integrate Africa; and improve the quality of life of African people.
Former Nigerian Minister of Agriculture, Akinwumi Adesina was named "African Personality of the Year" in 2013 by Forbes magazine. A development specialist, he is also the winner of the World Food Prize and the SunHak Peace Prize.
The 55th Annual Meeting of the AfDB and the 43rd Meeting of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund (ADF) were held on Wednesday and Thursday in virtual mode for the first time in the history of the AfDB Group.
