A new bridge dedicated to Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro will be built between the communes of Plateau and Treichville.

The infrastructure will be carried out by the Société ivoirienne de construction du métro d'Abidjan (SICMA), as part of the main works of the Project.

This structure with a total length of 372 meters will be built on piles up to 85 meters in length. It will be located west of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Bridge (FHB).

Giving the motivations for the construction of this work, S ICMA explains that "the current FHB bridge was not designed to accommodate the metro. A new construction dedicated to the metro is therefore necessary.

The future viaduct will therefore ensure the continuity of this rail corridor, which is closed to all external traffic."

Once the work is completed, the metro will run over this viaduct and will thus connect the north zone (Anyama, Abobo, Adjamé, Le Plateau) to the south zone (Treichville, Marcory, Port-Bouët).

The Ivorian Metro Construction Company is starting numerous works along the route from the commune of Anyama to Port-Bouët as part of the preparatory work for Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro.

These include network diversion work and the construction of structures to protect underground installations along the route.

The company will open more than 250 construction sites that will involve about 50 Ivorian companies.
