Nairobi, Kenya — The world's first solar power plant generates enough electricity to power 8,500 people a year.

Rendeavor has installed its first solar power plant in Kenya, as part of a 30 MW strategy at Tatu City, the company's new urban development in Nairobi.

This installation is in line with Rendeavour's long-term commitment to protecting the environment through the exploitation of renewable energy sources. The solar power plant, installed on the roof of the world headquarters of Dormans Coffee in the Tatu industrial park, provides 1 MW of electricity. The installation of this entire plant, including 15 kilometers of cables, took only six days.

Tatu City's strategy is to install solar panels on all the roofs of the industrial park, the largest in East Africa, said Nick Langford, the Kenya country manager of Rendeavour, owner and developer of Tatu City.

“Solar electricity allows us to contribute to clean energy, which is one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” Langford continued. “The electricity produced from the solar panels will be distributed to homes and businesses in the city. We are proud of this achievement and happy to know that residents will benefit from sustainable electricity at a very low cost. »

Tatu Industrial Park is for light and non-polluting industries. Leading international, regional and local companies are positioning their businesses in Tatu City to ensure their growth in East Africa and beyond. Among them are Dormans Coffee, Kim-Fay, Unilever, Coopers K-Brands, Chandaria Industries, Freight Forwarder Kenya, Stecol and Tianlong. Backed by the CDC Group and the International Finance Corporation, Africa Logistics Properties owns the largest A-level warehouse in Kenya at the Tatu Industrial Park.

Other projects in Tatu City, a new town of more than 2,000 hectares, are schools by Nova Pioneer and Crawford International, as well as more than 5,000 houses under construction.
