Following the recovery recorded in the previous month, industrial activity was marked, in August 2019, by a 5.0% decline in production, in monthly variation. According to the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (Ansd), this discount is attributable to a negative performance noted in the production activities of the mechanical, building materials, mining, paper and cardboard and food industries. This decline is, however, slowed down by a good performance of the production activity of the chemical and energy industries. In addition, the shutdown of production in the textile and leather industries that began in April 2019 continued. In reference to August 2018, industrial production activity improved by 5.9%. Total production in the first eight months of 2019 also increased by 2.8%, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
