In its fight against the spread of coronavirus on its soil, Togo has just received financial support from the European Union. It covers an amount of just over CFAF 13 billion.

<span "="" style="line-height: 1.5em; font-size: 20px;">The information was brought to the attention of the national public on Monday 20 April during a working session in Lomé. Present at the meeting were members of the EU Delegation to Togo and members of the National Coordination for Response Management.

The assistance of the international institution will be done in two phases. First, a direct payment into the State coffers before the end of April in progress of a sum of 6.3 billion CFA francs as budgetary aid. This amount will be used to finance the National Fund for Solidarity and Recovery of Economic Activities created by the Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé. It is estimated at 400 billion FCFA. A second disbursement is then announced for the end of June, a check of 5 billion FCFA.

In addition to this financial support, the European Union will work in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and Cooperation to mobilize 1.6 billion CFA francs to fight against Covid-19. "This last envelope should be used in particular for actions in medical care centers and prisons as well as support for awareness-raising actions," writes a newspaper close to the government.

According to Bruno Hanses, the EU's chargé d'affaires in Togo, "Togo can count on the solidarity of the European Union to face the pandemic", noting also the importance of the "prevention and response measures put in place very quickly by the authorities to limit the spread of the virus and its socio-economic impact, especially for the most vulnerable populations".

To date, Togo has 86 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 56 patients cured, 24 patients still under treatment and 6 deaths.
