The volume of loans placed by banks in Togo has remained quite modest. However, the country is leading the pace of progress in the countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). It should also be noted that the proportion of loans repayable over the medium and long term has also increased.

The volume of new loans granted by commercial banks to their customers grew the most in 2021 in Togo. The recent indicators published by the Central Bank of this subregion (BCEAO) mentioned that the new loans put in place in this country grew by 32% over the evaluated period, reaching 813 billion FCFA francs ($1.3 billion).

Burkina Faso (+24%) came second in the ranking, followed by Benin (+19%) and Mali (+15.7%). According to calculations, this is the largest increase for loans put in place in the country since 2017.
