The extractive sector is dominated by mining, particularly gold, phosphate, and mineral sands, in Senegal. On the other hand, the country has immense oil and gas potential, which is not yet fully exploited.

One of the data provided by the latest report of the local committee of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, published on Thursday, December 22, mentions that the extractive sector increased its contribution to GDP to 4.98% in 2021 in Senegal. The same document also provides information on the contribution of the extractive sector (Mines and Hydrocarbons) to the Senegalese economy. Thus, this sector represented 38% of total exports in 2021, from 797 billion FCFA ($1.37 billion) in 2020 to 1' 096 milliards FCFA (1,88 milliard $) l style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif"">ann é The last one è .

Furthermore, the contribution of the extractive sector to job creation remains relatively low with 0.23% of the active population working for mining and oil companies. Note that the extractive sector generated 223.15 billion FCFA ($383.44 million) in revenue in 2021.
