A report on gas production in Africa has been published by the American NGO “Global Energy Monitor”. According to the information in this document, Morocco is well placed to become a gas exporter in Africa.

Monitoring data from the American NGO “Global Energy Monitor” report shows that 84% of new reserves under development are located with new entrants to the gas market in Africa. These are, in fact, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania, Mauritania, South Africa, Ethiopia or Morocco. These countries could overtake Nigeria, Egypt, Libya and Algeria, which according to history have the most proven gas reserves and production.

On the Moroccan side, current reserves amount to around 39 billion cubic meters of gas, reveals the NGO. This indeed confirms the statement of Graham Lyon, CEO of the British company Sound Energy in charge of oil and gas exploration in Morocco. According to this statement, “there is a project in Morocco that will supply about 100 million cubic meters per year of liquefied natural gas to industrial markets and that the kingdom has significant reserves of natural gas estimated at more than 20 trillion cubic feet have even made it an exporter.”
