With the aim of providing access to electricity via solar photovoltaic systems to 200 new rural localities in Cameroon, the government, in collaboration with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), is signing an agreement for financing of the order of 35 billion FCFA (about 57 million US dollars). It was Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

L'accord entre le Cameroun et Afreximbank Is a first First round of financing, which will make it possible to build 87 micropower plants to connect more than 13,000 households according to the communication unit of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) ). Indeed, the rural electrification project using a solar photovoltaic system aims to produce an average of 32 kilowatts of electricity in 1,000 localities across the country. It was launched in 2016 by the government and its Chinese partner, Huawei Technology. Its objective, according to the boss of MinePat style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif">, Alamine Ousmane Mey “, is to support economic activity on the basis of the availability of energy, support the socio-economic integration of populations, particularly young people, who could therefore use this framework space to create their businesses and thus create income-generating activities”.
