L'Institut québécois d' intelligence artificielle et l' Organisation des Nations Unies pour l' éducation, la science et la culture (UNESCO ) launched a joint book on Monday, March 20, 2023 in Mila on Monday, March 20, 2023 on the urgent need to manage artificial intelligence (AI) in the face of unprecedented technological changes.

“Blind spots in artificial intelligence governance”, is the title of the new book launched by Mila and UNESCO. It features 18 articles on AI governance written by members of academia, politics, civil society, and industry at a time when technological revolutions are opening new scientific, economic, and social perspectives while raising ethical questions and posing regulatory challenges. This book addresses themes relating to the influence of AI on LGBTI and indigenous communities, the need to include countries of the South in global AI governance, and the use of AI to support innovation for socially beneficial purposes. Also, this book contains possible solutions to promote the development of AI that is ethical, inclusive and respectful of human rights.

A l' occasion du lancement, Yoshua Bengio, professeur titulaire à University of Montreal , founder and scientific director of Mila, scientific director of IVADO, and Canada-CIFAR AI chairholder, and Kate Crawford, research professor at the University of Southern California Annenberg, senior principal investigator at Microsoft Research, and an expert on the social, political, and environmental consequences of AI discussed the important possibilities offered by AI to accelerate the Dice scientific coverage, especially in the fields of health and the environment. They also discussed the necessary ethical and regulatory framework in the field to ensure that technology serves all humanity.
