The Hon Hai Technology Group's (Foxconn) proposal was approved on Monday, March 20, 2023 by the Karnataka State High-Level Licensing Committee headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. This proposal is to set up a mobile phone manufacturing unit on the outskirts of Bangalore with an investment of 8,000 crore.

The new cell phone manufacturing plant will be built on 300 acres near Bengaluru International Airport. It will be the largest unit of this type of Foxconn in India. According to the government, the project is expected to generate 50,000 jobs.
