The first edition of the Cassava Week celebration will take place from 13 to 16 June 2023 at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), in Accra and at the Innovation Village Foundation in Anormawobi, in the Central Region. It is an initiative of the Biotechnology and Nuclear Agriculture Research Institution (BNARI) of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GALEC).

Promoting the value of cassava cultivation and use in Ghana is the aim of this first edition of the celebration of cassava week. This first edition is based on the theme “Cassava — Ghana's golden root for economic transformation”. It aims to make Ghanaians aware of the rich diversity and benefits of cassava cultivation. The Director of the Ghana Institute of Space Science and Technology, Professor Shiloh Osae announced in a speech on behalf of the Director General of GAEC, Professor Samuel Dampare that this program was part of GAEC's efforts to support the government in using science, technology and innovation (STI) to improve cassava varieties for national development.

Pour The managing director of Ayensu Starch Company Limited, Evans Kwame Ayim, although cassava is mainly seen as a food crop, encouraging local processing and consumption of cassava products will generate income for farmers will benefit and create jobs for the Ghanaian economy. According to him, more than 70% of Ghanaian farmers are involved in cassava production, making it an important root crop in the country's agricultural system.
