are over-indebted and 13 others are at high risk of over-indebtedness.The Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia, Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe are the 8 countries in a situation of over-indebtedness. And the 13 countries with a high risk of over-indebtedness are Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan. “Trade and Development Report Update” is based on a debt sustainability analysis of low-income countries up to 28 February 2023. These African countries are expected to repay Eurobonds issued during the previous decade in the coming years. Repayments are expected to reach their highest level in 2024 and remain high over the next decade, at a time when most countries on the continent are unable to use international markets to refinance their debts
