On 11 May 2023, the World Bank approved $460 million in financing for eight West African countries and three regional organizations. This funding will make it possible to improve and harmonize their data systems.

The International Development Association (IDA) provided funding in the form of credits and donations. It will support the implementation of the first phase of the Project for Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West and Central Africa (HISWACA, Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West and Central Africa). This project involves Benin, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal. It will make it possible to strengthen statistical capacities and modernize the national statistical systems of the beneficiary countries.

Through this project, states and regional organizations will be able to improve the living conditions of more than 120 million people living in extreme poverty through effective decision-making, the implementation of development policies, and a transparent allocation of resources based on evidence.
