Fraud on electricity and water distribution networks is causing huge losses of resources in these sectors in Côte d'Ivoire. The various types of fraud in the energy and water sector are manifested both by consumers and by illicit retailers. To do this, the Ivorian State has adopted specific laws, while CIE and SODECI agree to carry out awareness-raising activities

To combat the scourge of fraud in the electricity and water sectors in Côte d'Ivoire, the State has enacted two laws. These are, first, Law No. 2014-132 of 24 March 2014 on the Electricity Code, then Law No. 2019-574 of 26 June 2019 on the Penal Code, which aims to punish electricity and water fraud respectively. These measures taken by the Government have strengthened the means to combat these illegal practices. Regular monitoring operations are also carried out on water and electricity distribution networks.

Similarly, the auditors have been carrying out joint awareness-raising activities for several years. Joint teams composed of CIE and SODECI agents go to the field to meet target populations, including prefectural authorities, community leaders, religious leaders and opinion leaders
