A French Treasury document on France's trade relations with sub-Saharan Africa mentions that Nigeria, Angola, and South Africa are now France's main trading partners.

The French government mentions in its figures that Nigeria is France's largest trading partner in the region, with 20% of trade monopolized in 2022. The trade volume estimated at $5.9 billion last year between the two parties grew by 47% in 2022, following an increase of 14.5% in 2021. France also imports massive amounts of oil and natural gas from Angola. According to the French authorities, hydrocarbon imports from Angola exploded “starting in February 2022, as a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine, which led to our disengagement from Russia.” In South Africa, hydrocarbons represent the main import point.
