The general coordinator of the Strategic Program for the Transformation of Aquaculture in Côte d'Ivoire (Pstaci) indicated yesterday, November 30, 2023 that Côte d'Ivoire plans to become an important hub in fish production. To do this, the country aims to produce more than 500,000 tons of fishery products by 2030

.

The general coordinator of the Strategic Program for the Transformation of Aquaculture in Côte d'Ivoire (Pstaci), Modibo Samaké believes that the production of more than 500,000 tons of fishery products will be able to financially generate 825 billion CFA francs for the country. For him, “fish consumption per inhabitant in Côte d'Ivoire has been estimated at 24.9 kg per year, since 2020. It is one of the highest rates in the world. However, national production, which amounts to 105,219 tonnes (including 6,300 tonnes from aquaculture), meets only 17% of national needs, estimated at nearly 650,000 tonnes.”

He indicated that the program he is leading aims to create a favorable framework for the development of national champions and SMEs capable of responding to local demand, but also to export demand, a rapidly expanding sector.
