The dollar was weak on Tuesday in thin trading because of the holidays. The yen is stabilizing near

its recent 5-month peak.

Against the greenback, the New Zealand dollar hit a new 5-month high of $0.6325, while the Australian dollar also held close to its recent five-month high and last bought $0.6817. The dollar index remained close to its lowest level in five months, at 101.42, reached last week, and held steady at

101.59.

In Asia, the yen rose 0.1% to 142.25 per dollar, receiving additional support from comments from BOJ governor Kazuo Ueda.
