A decree published last Wednesday mentioned that the Court of Cassation ordered a new trial for Thierry Gaubert on the length of the sentence and compensation from the State. It had definitively confirmed the latter's guilt for tax evasion and money laundering.

Justice accused Thierry Gaubert, former collaborator of Nicolas Sarkozy, of having hidden 8.9 million euros on various accounts in tax havens, between 1996 and 2016, between 1996 and 2016, with his ex-wife Hélène of Yugoslavia. In a judgment dated December 13, the Court of Cassation confirmed Gaubert's guilt. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and a fine of 300,000 euros for tax evasion and money laundering, compared to three years in prison and 600,000 euros fine at first instance

A new trial will therefore take place at the Paris Court of Appeal, before other magistrates, but only to determine the appropriate sentences and re-examine the question of State compensation. He was then sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were closed, and a 120,000 euros fine, for concealing abuse of social assets
