Deputies adopted on Wednesday 24 January 2024 at the National Assembly, the law authorizing the Republic of Benin to join the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The EBRD is a multilateral institution responsible for facilitating the transition to a market economy in Central and Eastern European countries. On July 2, 2023, Benin, through its Ministry of Finance, requested its membership as a member country and the intention to subscribe to two hundred three (203) shares in the bank's share capital. Following its request, the Board of Governors approved the accession of Benin through resolution No. 263 of 20 October 2023 and at the same time invites the Republic of Benin to fulfil the preconditions granting the country membership status by 31 October 2024 at the latest.
