.The dollar fell sharply on Friday amid a sense of positive risk following the positive results of big tech companies on Wall Street. The greenback retreated against a basket of currencies, extending a fall of 0.5% during the previous session. The dollar index stood at 103.02 and is on track for its first weekly decline of the year. The New Zealand dollar rose by 0.07% to $0.6149 and was on track for a weekly increase of almost 1%, its best performance in over
a month.The euro rose by 0.07% to $1.0879 and was aiming for a weekly gain of over 0.25%. The risky mood allowed Aussie to gain 0.17% to trade at $0.6583, although it was on track to end the week with a rise of only around
0.2%.The South African rand was little changed in early trading on Friday.
At 0700 GMT, the rand traded at 18.6200 against the dollar, not far from its previous close of 18.6100.The pound was about to make its biggest weekly increase against the dollar since mid-December. The pound rose 0.08% against the dollar to $1.2753 and is poised to post a weekly gain of 0.4%, the
largest in seven weeks.
