The note from the Ministry of Economy and Finance mentions that Guinea's ranking as the 2nd largest rice producer in West Africa has allowed the country to ensure more than 65% of its national rice consumption, compared to less than 50% for the majority of countries in the western subregion African. The government statement mentions that “between 2022 and 2023, rice imports fell by 9% in volume and a 12% increase in rice production is expected in 2024.”
In its briefing note, the Government indicated that “the increase in local production and the decrease in market prices are encouraging indicators of the national agricultural policy implemented”.
