Senegal has become an observer member of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF). This information was made official through an announcement from the Ministry of Petroleum.

In recent years, major oil and gas fields have been discovered in Senegal. The reserves of the Rufisque and Sangomar blocks (western Senegal) are estimated in particular at more than one billion barrels of oil. The Grand Tortue/Ahmeyim (GTA) natural gas field, on the border between Mauritania and Senegal, is also promising with reserves estimated at 900 billion cubic

meters.

Thus, “by becoming an observer member of the GECF, Senegal is taking a new step towards the responsible exploitation of its natural resources for the benefit of the populations”, underlines the ministry, in a statement released after a ministerial meeting in Algiers between the various countries members of this organization.

The integration of Senegal brings to 20 the number of member states of this forum founded in 2001, including 12 member countries (Algeria, Egypt, Russia, Russia, Qatar...) and eight observer member countries (Algeria, Egypt, Russia, Qatar...) and eight observer member countries (Angola, Egypt, Russia, Qatar...) and eight observer member countries (Angola, Mauritania, Peru...). According to this club, its members represent 70% of the world's proven gas reserves and 51% of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports
