Cameroon recorded a year-on-year jump of nearly 424 billion FCFA in loans to businesses in the 2nd quarter of 2023. This significant jump reveals that the restrictive monetary policy applied since 2022 by the BEAC to fight against inflation in the CEMAC (Congo, Gabon, Chad, CAR, CAR, CAR, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea) has proven to be somewhat ineffective

.

Financial institutions and banks operating in Cameroon granted local businesses a total of FCFA 1,311.6 billion in loans from April to June 2023, up by 424 billion CFA francs year-on-year (+47.7%). The Bank of Central African States in fact indicates that companies received 887.9 billion CFA francs in credit volume in the 2nd quarter of

2022.

The strategy, materialized by increasing the liquidity drain in banks, the repeated raising of key rates and the suspension of liquidity injections into the banking system, aimed to dry up credit institutions in order to limit bank financing.
