Dans une lettre publiée le lundi 15 avril 2024, quarante civil society organizations, including Amnesty International, have called on the Nigerian state to prevent Shell from selling its onshore subsidiary in the south-east of the country

The signatories of the letter addressed to the director of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPCR) ask “to refuse regulatory approval of the sale”. For them, Shell's decision to abandon its onshore activities in the Niger Delta in south-eastern Nigeria will come at the expense of the environment and local populations. They believe that Shell should not be allowed to circumvent the law to evade its responsibilities for cleaning up the widespread pollution it left behind.
