A court in Lusaka, Zambia, has convicted 23 individuals for cybercrime. They are 22 Chinese nationals and one Cameroonian

The defendants have been involved in online fraud and scams targeting Zambian citizens as well as people in Singapore, Peru, and the United Arab Emirates.

The operation, conducted in April, dismantled what authorities describe as a “sophisticated internet fraud syndicate.” The Lusaka court imposed prison sentences ranging from 7 to 11 years, with fines of between $1,500 and $3,000, after defendants pleaded guilty to computer misrepresentation, identity theft, and illegal exploitation of a network or service. These severe sentences highlight the seriousness of the offences committed and the determination of the Zambian authorities to fight cybercrime
