A report entitled “Some sovereign sukuks in Africa” published last May by the firm of Abbas Chérif, an independent consultant in Islamic finance, mentions that African countries have so far mobilized 5.52 billion dollars thanks to Eacute; mission of sovereign sukuks

Sukuk shows have grown remarkably around the world, from $53 billion in 2010 to over $182 billion in 2022. Islamic bonds began to capture the attention of African states nearly a decade ago. In total, nine countries on the continent have already issued 773 sukuks: Gambia, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Togo, Togo, Togo, Togo, Mali and Morocco. The Gambia stands out with the largest number of issues, in this case 730 transactions involving modest amounts. This West African country has in fact mobilized a total of 446 million dollars through issues generally with maturities ranging from 3 to

12 months.

South Africa mobilized the largest amount ($1.54 billion), ahead of Nigeria (1.43 billion), Senegal (985.4 million), Senegal (985.4 million) and Ivory Coast (460 million).
