The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) annual conference focused on the theme “Inflation and Monetary Policy in Africa: Understanding Regional Challenges”. A press release indicated that Governor Jean-Claude Kassi Brou emphasized during his speech that, despite the resilience of global economic activity, inflationary pressures persist, due to disruptions in global supply chains and geopolitical tensions. According to him, inflation in the countries of UEMOA has been strongly influenced by several shocks, in particular the decrease in food production due to climate change, the rise in the prices of imported food and oil products, as well as the security crisis in some countries of the Sahel. These factors led to a general increase in prices in the Union in 2022, with a peak of 8.8% in August 2022
