The new Global Coalition for Mobile Phone Accessibility was launched on Wednesday 10 July in London, United Kingdom by the Global Association of Telephone Operators (GSMA). The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is one of the targeted countries.

The Global Coalition aims to facilitate the acquisition of mobiles by populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), generally located in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, in order to promote Internet consumption. It brings together several players, including the World Bank, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), WEF Edison Alliance, mobile manufacturers, the Orange Group, MTN Group and Vodacom Group and represents numerous development challenges for the DRC

We've seen the power of digital technologies to drive growth and job creation and to facilitate access to education and health services, but people need to be connected first to make this a reality. This coalition brings together key players from the development sector and community to contribute to making this aspiration a reality.”
