Ivory Coast is positioned as a key pillar in the natural rubber sector on a global scale. It occupied the position of the first African producer and the third largest producer of rubber trees in the world with a production of 1,678,000 tonnes in 2023. The players in the sector are determined to maintain this growth dynamic and to strengthen the local transformation of latex.

Actors in the rubber industry in Côte d'Ivoire recently commissioned an in-depth study from the National Agricultural Research Institutions (INRA). According to the Director of FIRCA's Export Culture and Forest Production Department, Assita Traoré, this initiative is part of a strategy aimed at mobilizing national expertise to identify the most relevant actions to be integrated into the development programs of the rubber industry. The objective of players in the rubber industry is to increase Côte d'Ivoire's global market shares in this

key sector.

Zoro Bi Irié, professor of Plant Genetics and Improvement at Nangui Abrogoua University, presented the main recommendations of this study on Friday, August 9, 2024 in Grand-Bassam. These recommendations recommend in particular the development of agroforestry, the use of organic products for plant protection, as well as the facilitation of the local processing of rubber products and by-products to generate more added value. Faced with the multitude of studies in progress, he also suggested the development of a unified research program on rubber trees, bringing together all

available expertise.
