An operation to bank legal fees, most of which escaped the public purse, was launched by the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is a means of combating corrupt practices.

Court fees will now be deposited at the bank to the delight of individuals and applicants for official acts. These fees are collected by magistrates, clerks, police officers or other actors in the judicial administration. Authorities expect strong growth in court revenue. At the Ministry of Justice, accounting charged amounts in excess of the official rates, in particular for obtaining criminal record extracts. At least 240 acts generating revenue for the State are concerned, such as fines imposed by magistrates, bonds for conditional release, the authentication of acts or the issuance of documents
