For the 12-month fiscal year ending in June 2024, Vodacom, a mobile phone operator based in South Africa, reported a total transaction volume of $400 billion through its financial services.

Vodacom's total transaction volume of $400 billion includes transactions on its network in South Africa and in its subsidiaries (Egypt, Mozambique, Tanzania, Lesotho and DRC), which had 46.6 million users at the end of the period. A large part of Vodacom's performance comes from SafariCom, a Kenyan operator in which it owns 35%. With 35 million active users, it embodies the successful transition of a telephone operator to financial services, with an estimated transaction volume of 320 billion dollars.

Moreover, its direct competitor MTN seems to be developing a strategy aimed at making financial services a real source of growth. Vodacom's presence in financial services is not significant in West Africa. In addition, competitors like MTN, Orange ,Airtel Africa , et Moove Africa (filiale de Maroc Telecom ) dominate. MTN, Vodacom's main rival, reported $285.5 billion in transactions over the

same period.
