The General Directorate of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan has published a new note according to which economic operators and vehicle importers in Côte d'Ivoire have had to deal with a drastic increase in port taxes, since September 5, 2024.

The note from the General Directorate of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan indicated that the port tax applied to commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, and trucks has been multiplied by ten. Previously fixed at 15,000 FCFA per ton, it now reaches 150,000 FCFA per ton, representing a spectacular increase of 900%. According to port authorities, the increase in these taxes is part of a larger plan to support the modernization and improvement of the infrastructure of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan, a strategic commercial hub for the West African subregion

The note from the General Directorate of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan also announced a revision of tariffs for several other product categories. Spare parts for commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and trucks will see their port tax increase to 30,000 FCFA per ton, which will also impact the automotive maintenance sector
