Le groupe britannique AngloGold Ashanti signed an agreement to acquire Centamin for the transaction valued at 2.5 billion dollars.

The announced acquisition of Centamin will give the British group AngloGold Ashanti control of the largest Egyptian gold mine (Sukari) and of a gold project capable of delivering 47 tons of gold to Côte d'Ivoire (Doropo). According to the company's publication, the price per share obtained as part of this takeover (0.163 pounds sterling) represents a premium of 36.7% compared to the closing price of Centamin shares. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to various approvals including that of Centamin shareholders. AngloGold's main objective with this acquisition is to increase its gold production by relying on the Sukari gold mine.
