Triggered by a production disruption in the Gulf of Mexico in the United States, oil prices extended their rally on Friday and were on track for a weekly gain.

Brent crude oil futures rose 38 cents, or 0.53%, to $72.35 per barrel at 07:35 GMT. West Texas Intermediate U.S. crude futures rose 40 cents, or 0.58%, to $69.37. both benchmarks will end a streak of weekly declines if these gains continue.
