The federal government has set a goal of increasing oil production per day to 2.3 million tons by mid-2025. Mohammad Badaru Abubakar, the Minister of Defense, announced this during a recent visit to the barracks of the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt

.

Abubakar attributed the expected increase to military efforts to combat crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region and to support the presidential administration.

“I think we are now at about 1.6 to 1.7 million barrels, up from 1.4 million barrels previously. And I think that by the end of the year we will be around 1.9 to 2 million barrels,” said Dr. Abubakar

.

“And by the middle of next year (God willing), we'll be producing about 2.3 million barrels. Thanks to the agreement that I saw in place, the efforts made by the armed forces, the efforts of the Chief of the Defence Staff and the Chiefs of Staff, and of course, the encouragement of the President.

“Oil production must continue to increase and I assure you that before the end of the year we will see a considerable increase in oil production in this country.
