Le samedi 19 octobre 2024 s' est tenue la cérémonie de l' inauguration de la nouvelle mine d' or de Lafigué dans le département de Dabakala.

Le secteur minier ivoirien accueille un projet qui témoigne de l' engagement du gouvernement ivoirien à dynamiser l' economy national. The Lafigué mine is designed for a lifespan of thirteen years with an annualized production estimated at five tons of gold. It is operated by the Canadian company Endeavour Mining. Sangafowa-Coulibaly, Ivorian Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy said that “the opening of the Lafigué mine is part of a positive dynamic for our economy. Our ambition is to double the contribution of mining to the Gross Domestic Product, from 3 to 6%. It's an ambitious goal, but with projects like this, we're on the right track.” In this new mine, the cost of producing gold, which is between 900 and 975 dollars per ounce, positions Lafigué as one of the most competitive projects in the sub-region. According to the information, this performance should allow Côte d'Ivoire to increase its national gold production to 55 tons this year, surpassing the 50 tons of the previous year. According to Minister Sangafowa, “the Lafigué mine represents a significant advance, but it must also be managed with a keen awareness of its social and environmental impacts. We cannot sacrifice safety on the altar of production.”
