Kenyan shilling strengthened slightly.The US dollar fell to its lowest level in a week versus its main counterparts on Wednesday, looking to extend a three-day decline from a one-week peak, as the market regains its breath after the frenzied rally in the wake of the election of Donald Trump. The dollar index, which measures currency against six major peers, including the yen and the euro, fell to a low of 106.07 for the first time since Wednesday last week, and stood at 106.18 at 0247 GMT
.The euro held steady at 1.0598 dollars, after falling to 1.0524 dollars in the previous session.
The South African rand was little changed early on Wednesday ahead of the highly anticipated local inflation and retail sales data. At 0851 GMT, the rand traded at 18.05 against the dollar, not far from its previous close. According to Andre Cilliers, currency strategist at TreasuryOne, “investors will focus on SARB's future directions and the outlook for inflation, which could influence bond yields and the
ZAR.”The Kenyan shilling strengthened slightly on Wednesday, according to data from the London Stock Exchange Group. The shilling traded at 128.70/129.70 at 06:45 GMT, according to LSEG data, compared to Tuesday's closing rate of 128.75/129.75. Traders had previously said that the East African currency would remain stable towards the end of the month, with businesses converting dollars into local currencies for
statutory payments.
