Morocco is pursuing its ambition to modernize rail infrastructure with a new major advance in the high-speed line (LGV) project connecting Kenitra to Marrakech. This extension, which is of strategic importance for the country, has reached a decisive milestone with the award of a civil engineering contract worth 2.32 billion dirhams (225 million dollars) to the Chinese group Gezhouba, one of the world leaders in the

construction sector.

With this award, Gezhouba becomes the fifth Chinese group involved in this ambitious project, joining CRCC 20 and China Railway No.04 Engineering. Together, these companies share contracts worth several billion dirhams, underlining the importance of China as a key partner for Morocco in the modernization of its infrastructures

.

While China is emerging as a major player in the project, Moroccan companies are not left behind. TGCC and Jet Contractors, for example, won significant contracts of 2.83 billion and 2 billion dirhams respectively. The French group Colas, via its subsidiary GTR, is also involved in a contract worth 2.2 billion dirhams

.

The extension of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line goes beyond the simple construction of a new railway line. It includes the rehabilitation of stations, the connection to the conventional network and the establishment of maintenance facilities, with a strategic hub planned in Kenitra

.

By connecting key cities like Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, this infrastructure aims to transform mobility in Morocco. The project is also part of a wider economic strategy.
