The ECOWAS Investment and Development Bank (BIDC) has been selected as the winner of the “Financial Institution of the Year - Africa” category of the African Sustainable Development Award. This place of honor was granted to him by the Advisory Council of the African Sustainable Development Prize, in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).

The ECOWAS Investment and Development Bank will receive its award on 30 December 2024 at the international conference hall in Accra, Ghana. According to a press release, this award recognizes the exceptional involvement of the BIDC in implementing sustainable practices across Africa and its commitment to advancing the continent environmentally, socially and economically, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the press release, the African Sustainable Development Prize (ASA) is a platform that honors individuals, organizations, businesses, NGOs and government agencies that demonstrate a significant commitment to sustainable practices

The document also states that “in line with its mission to improve access to sustainable financial resources in West Africa, the Bank has committed over $1 billion to date in sustainability-focused projects, guided by its 2021-25 strategy. The Bank's attention to sustainable initiatives has gained international recognition, so much so that the European Investment Bank (Bei) recently granted a credit line worth €100 million to support sustainable and climate-friendly projects in the sub-region of la Cedeao ”.
