The Emirati group Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company and the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport have signed an agreement to build 32 dry ports and a logistics zone in Alexandria, announces a statement from the Council of Ministers published on Thursday 23 January.

Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El Wazir, attended the signing by the Executive Director General of the Marine and Land Transport Holding, Dr. Amr Moustafa, and the Regional CEO of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mutawa.

The Egyptian minister emphasized that this agreement was part of the implementation of the ministry's comprehensive plan to develop the Egyptian maritime transport system and ports, aimed at transforming Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics and transit trade, in accordance with the directives of President Abdel Fattah. This project is part of the Ministry of Transport's plan to create 32 dry ports and logistics zones across the country.

The minister specified that the proposed logistics zone at the Port of Alexandria covers an area of 273 acres in the first phase, while the second phase will cover 600 acres. This area will host various industries related to maritime transport, complementary industries and activities with high added value, especially container production, a new industry for Egypt.

The zone will also see activities related to storage, import-export, customs filing, re-export, as well as packaging, packaging, and light processing for agricultural products and simple industries using oils imported in bulk.

Another key component will be the manufacture of packaging such as cartons, bags and containers (20 and 40 feet).
