Les Niger authorities plan to launch the industrial exploitation of copper in the northern desert part of the country, in order to diversify mining production in this country, which is particularly rich in uranium.

The Nigerian government announced that a permit for the industrial extraction of copper has been granted to a national company, Compagnie Minière de l'Aïr (Cominair SA), in Tabelot and Dabaga, municipalities in the Agadez region (North). According to the government, “Niger is continuing its program to diversify mining production” and “marks its entry into the restricted circle of countries producing this strategic mineral, with the start of copper exploitation. The planned production is 2,700 tons of copper per year over a period of 10 years and should generate 300 direct jobs
