The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) officially launched, on April 2, 2025, the circulation of a new range of coins called “Type 2024". This initiative aims to modernise and strengthen the use of cash payments in the six countries of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), where coins were becoming increasingly rare

.

The “Type 2024" range includes nine (9) denominations: 1 FCFA, 2 FCFA, 5 FCFA, 10 FCFA, 10 FCFA, 25 FCFA, 25 FCFA, 25 FCFA, 25 FCFA, 50 FCFA, 50 FCFA, 50 FCFA, 100 FCFA, 200 FCFA and 500 FCFA. One of the main innovations is the introduction of a 200 CFA franc coin, designed to meet the growing needs of consumers and facilitate cash transactions. This new range combines enhanced safety, environmental sustainability and distinctive design.

The coins, it is said, are made from resistant and environmentally friendly metals, and feature specific engravings illustrating subregional integration as well as the emergence of CEMAC states. Particular attention is paid to the themes of education, the place of women in society, modern agriculture and the protection of fauna and flora.

In addition, the governor of BEAC, Yvon Sana Bangui, announced that a total of 3 billion CFA francs will be injected into the economy by 2030 thanks to this new range. Each year, 500 million coins will gradually be put into circulation in the countries of the sub-region.
